Johnna Bush has been painting portraits passionately for almost 30 years.  Her subjects include men, women, children and family pets.  As a mother of two, Johnna is especially fond of painting children, often depicted pausing while pursuing a favorite activity.  Johnna feels this  is the best way that she can express those fleeting days of childhood.  Johnna’s understanding of color relationships and her ability to capture such amazing likeness of her subjects characterize her painting technique. The elements of Johnna’s style of portraiture have evolved from her trove of experience.  She has painted countless portraits of people from all walks of life.  Johnna pursued an interest in painting from her early years and has studied under several successful artists, as well as constantly reading on the subject.  Largely self- taught, Johnna emerges as a standout in a room of contemporary painters.  Whether a Bush portrait emphasizes emotion or restraint, it is always a minutely detailed painting unerringly true to life. Some of Johnna’s achievements include: • Commissioned in 2007 by the Grove Hill Arts Council for the town of Grove Hill to paint a 16 x  92 foot outdoor Mural. This Mural exemplifies the rich timber and wildlife of the region. It is now listed in Alabama’s travel guide amongst other beautiful places to see in Alabama • Commissioned in 2005 by the Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission to paint the state’s signature portrait representing the culture of the “Black Belt Region”.  Included in this portrait among local artisans, is Katherine Tucker Windham. • Commissioned in 2003 to create the celebratory portrait of the 10 writers commemorated at the 6th Annual Alabama Writers Symposium.  Depicted in this portrait were Harper Lee and Truman Capote, among others.  • Member of the Portrait Society of America
